Menlo (, meaning "small lake") is a village and townland in County Galway, Ireland. ==Overview== Historically known as Mionloch in Irish and later Anglicized as Menlo; older maps spell this townland of Galway as Menlough. Menlo is both a village and townland name and is in the Parish of Castlegar, County Galway, Ireland. The village retains some of the characteristics of the clachan form which is more evident in Ordnance Survey of Ireland maps of the 19th century.〔http://maps.osi.ie/publicviewer/#V1,528539,728501,7,8〕 It gave its name to the town of Menlo Park in California, which was named by Dennis J. Oliver and D.C. McGlynn after their native village. They constructed a wooden arch in Menlo Park, California to look like the stone archway of Menlo Castle in Menlo Park, Ireland. Menlo is situated on the East side of the River Corrib and South of the Lough Corrib. Menlo Castle, the Home of Valentine Blake, can still be seen here. Novelist, Walter Macken, established a home here; the structure is still there. ''Menlo National School'' was established in the late 1930s. The school was originally built housing two classrooms. In the Late 1970s the school added two more classrooms to the existing school. In 2001 the community got permission to build a sporting complex adjoining the school called ''Áras Pobail, Mionloch ''. The school has approx 139 students enrolled this year.
